One embodiment is a computer that includes a controller and a battery with a fuel gauge. The fuel gauge reports voltage and current input to charge the battery while the computer is in an off-state. The controller receives information about the voltage and current input to charge the battery from the fuel gauge and uses the information to calculate power being input to the computer while the computer is in an on-state.
