Methods of removing carbon dioxide comprising contacting a gas mixture comprising carbon dioxide with a sorbent. The sorbent comprises the following chemical structure: wherein at least one of R1, R2, and R3 comprises a primary amine group and wherein the sorbent is not melamine and does not comprise the following chemical structure: Sorbents for removing carbon dioxide are also disclosed.
