There is provided a lighting system 100 comprising at least one lighting device 110, 120, 130 and a control unit 140 arranged for providing power P1,2,3 to each lighting device according to a control logic which is based on startup characteristics C1,2,3 of each lighting device. Thereby a lighting system is provided in which the individual characteristics of the lighting devices are taken into account when controlling the lighting devices. Since the control logic is based on startup characteristics for the lighting devices in the system, as an example, a reduction of the total standby power in the lighting system is achievable.
