A backlight device 24 of the present invention includes: a chassis 22 that has a bottom plate 22a, and a side wall 22b that rises on the front side of the bottom plate 22a from an edge of the bottom plate 22a; a light guide plate 20 that has a light-receiving face 20a, a light-exiting surface 20b, and an opposite surface 20c, and that is arranged such that the opposite surface 20c faces the surface of the bottom plate 22a; an LED substrate 30 that is arranged on the surface the bottom plate 22a and that abuts the side wall 22b; an LED light source 28 arranged on a front face of the LED substrate 30; a frame 14 arranged above the light-exiting surface 20b of the light guide plate 20; a first inclined portion 31 that is provided on the frame 14 and that inclines from the light guide plate 20 side towards the side wall 22b and from the bottom plate 22a side towards the light-exiting surface 20b; and a first abutting portion 41 that is arranged on the LED substrate 30 and that has a least a portion thereof abutting an inclined face of the first inclined portion 31.
