A fixing device includes: a fixing belt disposed around a heating member and a nip area member to be held by the heating member and the nip area member; a pressing member that presses the fixing belt against the nip area member while being rotationally driven, wherein the fixing belt is pressed and rotationally driven by the pressing member, and a toner image is fixed on a recording medium in a nip area where the pressing member presses the fixing belt against the nip area member; and one protrusion disposed upstream of the nip area and/or another protrusion disposed downstream of the nip area in the moving direction of the fixing belt to be in contact with the inner surface of the fixing belt.
