A method performed by a terminal in a communication system is provided, which includes receiving, from a base station, configuration information for a resource pool; identifying one or more preconfigured sensing schemes for the resource pool based on the configuration information, wherein the one or more preconfigured sensing schemes include full sensing, partial sensing, random resource selection, or a combination of two or more of the full sensing, the partial sensing, and the random resource selection; and selecting a sensing scheme for resource selection from among the one or more preconfigured sensing schemes.
