The method is applied to the electronic device, so that a plurality of applications may be simultaneously displayed on a screen of the electronic device. The method includes: receiving a first instruction; displaying a first interface in response to the first instruction, where the first interface includes preview cards of applications that are recently run and that are not closed; receiving a second instruction for at least one of the preview cards; and displaying a second interface according to the second instruction, where the second interface includes at least two display areas, and an application corresponding to the at least one preview card is displayed in at least one display area.
