The present application relates to methods, systems, and devices related to digital wireless communication, and more specifically, to techniques related to data transmission in an inactive state. In one exemplary aspect, a method for data communication is disclosed. The method includes identifying, by a terminal, that a data transmission with a network node has failed while the terminal is in an inactive state. The method also includes transmitting, by the terminal, a set of information relating to the failure of the data transmission to a network node responsive to the terminal transitioning to a connected state in which the terminal is connected to the network node.
