A gas sensor device including a sensing component for detection of first gas analyte, electronic circuitry, and a communication system, wherein the electronic circuitry is configured to control operation of the gas sensor device and to measure a concentration of the first gas analyte based on a signal from the sensing component, the electronic circuitry further being configured to control operation of the gas sensor device based upon an operational status of the gas sensor device determined at least in part on information received via the communication system based upon output from at least one sensor located at a different position from the gas sensor device.
