Production of squalene-type-hydrocarbons by dimerizing conjugated diene compounds in the presence of a catalyst system consisting of a palladium compound, a ligand of the formula MR''3 (where M represents P or As, and R'' represents a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon group) and a strong alkaline agent, in an alcohol in the presence of a compound having ether bond(s).
