A method for preventing reproduction by administering to male mammals a peptide which inhibits the secretion of gonadotropins by the pituitary gland and inhibits the release of steroids by the gonads. The peptide has the structure:p--Glu--His--Trp--Ser--Tyr--D--Trp--Leu--Arg--Pro--NH--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3.
