Monofluorobenzene is prepared in a good yield by reacting cyclopentadiene or its dimer of the formula: ##STR1## with fluorohalomethane of the formula:CHFX.sub.2wherein Xs are, same or different, halogen atoms in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst and an acid acceptor.
