Herbicidally active novel 1-phenyl-4-cyano-5-halogenopyrazoles of the formula ##STR1## in which R is hydrogen or alkyl,Hal is halogen, andAr is phenyl substituted at least once by a radical other than halogen.Intermediates of the formulas ##STR2## are also new.
