A developing and finishing composition for lithographic printing plates containing:a. a mono-, di-, or tri-sodium potassium or lithium phosphate; andb. benzyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol or phenoxypropanol; andc. polyvinyl pyrrolidone, dextrin, poly (methyl vinyl ether/maleic acid) or gum arabic; andd. citric acid or benzoic acid; ande. sodium or potassium octyl sulfate; andf. sodium, potassium or lithium benzoate; andg. sodium, potassium or ammonium citrate; andh. sodium, potassium or ammonium sorbate; andi. sufficient water to formulate an effective developer.
