A silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon at least one hydrophilic colloid layer, at least one of which is a silver halide photographic emulsion layer, is disclosed. At least one of the silver halide emulsion layers or other hydrophilic colloid layers of the photographic material contains a compound represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein, A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 both represent hydrogen atoms or one represents a hydrogen atom and the other a sulfonyl group or an acyl group, R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic group, an aromatic group or a heterocyclic group, G.sub.1 represents a carbonyl group, a sulfonyl group, a sulfoxy group, a ##STR2## group wherein R.sub.2 represents an alkoxy group or an aryloxy group, a ##STR3## group or an iminomethylene group, X.sub.1 is a moiety which instigates a ring-forming reaction by cleaving the --G.sub.1 --X.sub.1 moiety from the residual molecule and forms a cyclic structure containing the atoms of the --G.sub.1 --X.sub.1 moiety, and at least one of R.sub.1 and X.sub.1 has a silver halide adsorption accelerating group.
