The invention relates to novel benzene derivatives of the formula I ##STR1## in which n is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7,Q is --O--, --CH.dbd.CH-- or a single bond,r is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5,s is 0, 1 or 2,X is F, Cl, OCHF.sub.2 or CF.sub.3,L is H or F, andA is ##STR2## Z, Z-Ar, Ar-Z, Z-Cyc in which Z is a single bond, --(CH.sub.2).sub.2 -- or --(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --, Ar is 1,4-phenylene or biphenyl-4,4'-diyl and Cyc is trans-1,4-cyclohexylene.
