The collection is carried out by the successive clamping of the sheets between the successive windings of a belt roll (13). The roll so formed is directly usable at the inlet of a subsequent processing unit by submitting it to a suitable translation combined or not with either a rotation around an axis (33) parallel to the shaft (16) of the belt roll or around an axis perpendicular to said shaft.
