A magneto-optical head includes an optical head provided with a light-focusing device for focusing a beam spot on an information-recording medium and a magnetic head provided with a magnetic-field applying device for applying a magnetic field to the information-recording medium. The optical head and the magnetic head have the same rotation center and are arranged to rotate together in respective planes parallel to the information-recording medium.The relative position shift between the beam spot and the magnetic-field applying device, which occurs when the beam spot follows eccentric components of the information-recording medium, is avoided. As a result, a magnetic-field applying device can be miniaturized, resulting in decrease in power consumption and in inductance of the magnetic head. Consequently, data can be recorded at a high frequency, thus improving the recording density and transfer speed.
