The SIL has a planar surface facing the recording medium and a plurality of elliptically curved surfaces opposite the recording medium. The elliptically curved surfaces have different radii of curvature arranged symmetrical with respect to a central axis for focusing the incident light to form a tight beam spot on a recording plane of the recording medium.
