Embodiments providing a protective overcoat, e.g. containing carbon, over a magnetic recording medium having a servo-patterned substrate; applying a fluoropolyether comprising one or more acrylate groups on the protective overcoat by dip coating the magnetic recording medium in a solution of the fluoropolyether and polymerizing the fluoropolyether by ultraviolet radiation.
