The liquid crystal display includes: a first substrate, a first electric field generating electrode which is located on the first substrate and which has a plurality of cut portions, a direction control electrode located on the first substrate and overlapping at least one of the cut portions, a second substrate facing the first substrate, a second electric field generating electrode located on the second substrate and opposite to the first electric field generating electrode. The liquid crystal display further includes a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first electric field generating electrode and the second electric field generating electrode, and a slope member located on one of the first and second substrate and having a ridge and a slope. The ridge corresponds to the direction control electrode.
