The method includes receiving digital audio data and receiving a first input to a volume control to increase a volume of the audio data. The method further includes amplifying the audio data in response to the first user input without clipping the audio data and receiving one or more subsequent user inputs to the volume control, where in response to each subsequent user input performing compression and amplification of the audio data.
