The ionization section includes at least one level at a right angle to the channel axis. The at least one assembly includes at least two substantially identical ionization stages disposed in a plane and arranged uniformly about the channel axis and configured to conduct a gas flow radially, with respect to the channel axis, inward therethrough into the downstream central collection section so as to be similarly diverted such that a flow profile over an inside cross section in the downstream central collection section is not inclined with respect to the channel axis in the course of the gas flow.
