The method for video telephony communication includes executing video telephony communication for transmitting and receiving a video signal and a voice signal, determining a power saving mode set in the terminal, measuring at least one environmental value corresponding to the determined power saving mode, and transmitting and receiving the voice signal when the environmental value is less than a critical value. The terminal and the method for video telephony communication enable a reduction of power consumption even in a poor video telephony communication environment.
