One aspect includes providing additional operating system content at an information handling device, partitioning a recovery list comprising at least one element of a base operating system, preparing at least one of the base operating system and the additional operating system content for an operating system update, accessing the recovery list and assimilating content from the recovery list in preparation for the operating system update, and undertaking the operating system update.
