In one aspect, in general, a method includes receiving, in a user interface of a video editing application executing on a computer system, an indication from a user of the video editing application to edit an animated object associated with a video clip displayed in the user interface, receiving, by the video editing application executing on the computer system, data specifying an editing location of the animated object, and determining, by the video editing application executing on the computer system, a frame of the video clip associated with the editing location of the animated object, the determination based on the data specifying the editing location of the animated object.
