The thumb ring is slidably attached to the first cutting blade by a shaft that moves freely but with a certain amount of friction along a longitudinal slot in the thumb handle of the first cutting blade when the scissors are in use. The longitudinal slot in the thumb handle is situated within a second plane that is perpendicular to the first plane.
