The helmet mounted display including a housing; latching tabs; an optical element having a combiner surface; at least one processor; and at least one memory including software, the at least one memory and software configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus at least to display heads up information on the combiner surface. The optical element is housed within a second portion of the housing being hingedly attached to the first portion of the housing.
