This invention relates to an automatic switch for a power window, which has a combination manual and automatic contact used in a circuit for controlling a power window in which window glass of an automobile is moved up and down by an electric window motor. In the automatic switch for a power window according to the present invention, an operation knob (21) capable of being set to a manual or automatic operational position depending upon the angle of rocking movement, and a rocking member (24) operatively connected to the operation knob (21) are provided. The automatic switch is also provided with a locking member (29) adapted to mechanically maintain the rocking condition of the rocking member (24) when a rocking contact member (18) and one of fixed contacts (17e), (17f) are in an engaged state, and an automatic retainer mechanism consisting of a solenoid (30) for pressing the locking member (29). The above-described arrangement enables in the automatic operation position the rocking member (24) alone to be maintained in a rocking state, and an operation knob (25) to be automatically returned to a neutral position.
