A device such as a pillow includes a pad (1) of resilient foam plastics which is enclosed within a close-fitting cotton case. On the underside of the pad strips (2, 3, 6, and 9) of similar material are secured to the pad by stitching to form pockets extending along the edges of the pad, at least the front pocket being connected to the pad by a hinge-like connection (12). Inflated bladders (13) are inserted into each of the pockets to provide adjustable supports for the pad. Lengths of resiliently extensible webbing (15, 16) and (18, 19) are secured to the side edges of the pad (1), and the webbing is provided with releasable fastener elements (17, 20) so that the tension in the webbing can be adjusted.
