A game apparatus which comprises an upper surface (1) and a lower surface (10) which together define an intermediate chamber (12). The upper surface (1) has a plurality of apertures (2) each of which is provided with a closure device such as a pair of shutters (3), a sliding door (60), or a hinged lid (55). Movement of the apparatus randomly positions a ball (40) within the chamber (12) at one of a number of locations (16) on the lower surface (10) of the apparatus. A retrieval device (41) is inserted through a selected aperture (2) and if the ball (40) is beneath that aperture the retrieval device (41) magnetically connects thereto and permits the removal of the ball (40) from the intermediate chamber (12).
