The invention relates to a method and a system for controlling and optionally shutting down the power of a nuclear reactor. The control system comprises regulating systems which operate on a neutron-absorption basis and use mobile neutron absorbing bodies. According to the invention a system of holes and channels can be filled with neutron absorbing bodies to a required level by the force of gravity.
