A remote control system includes beds (100), remote controls (150), and a master station (178) in communication with the beds (100) and the remote controls (150). Each bed (100) is adapted to receive requests from a patient associated with the bed (100), and each remote control (150) is adapted to present requests to a caregiver (110) associated with the remote control (150). The master station (178) is adapted to receive a nurse call request from a patient via a bed (100), to identify a remote control (150) that is associated with a caregiver (110) for the patient, and to transmit the nurse call request to the remote control (150) identified as being associated with the caregiver (110) for the patient.
