A non-contact, object modification system and method for modification of a container (2) . The system includes a rotatable and translatable axial beam guide (10) having a beam guide longitudinal axis and a beam directing mirror . (12) , connected to the axial beam guide. The beam directing mirror is for reflecting an initially directed electromagnetic radiation beam in a direction that is at least partially radial to the beam guide longitudinal axis.
