The invention relates to a pearlescent pigment comprising a metal-oxide containing, lamellar substrate comprising a first and a second protective layer, the metal oxide layer having a refractive index of more than 1,8. The first protective layer comprises cerium oxide and/or cerium hydrate and/or cerium hydroxide, the secodn protective layer is made, essentailly, preferably completely of SiO 2 . The second protective layer is arranged downstream from the first protective layer and between the first and the second protective layers, metal oxide layers, which are different from cerium oxide and/or cerium hydrate and/or cerium hydroxide and SiO 2 can be arranged. The second protective layer comprises an organic-chemical secondary coating which comprises at least one a-silane of formula (I): -O (4-n-m) -Si(-R 1 ) m (-CH 2 -Y) n , which is bound to the second protective layer by means of at least one oyxgen atom, wherein 1 = n+m = 3; m = 0 - 2; n = 1 - 3 ist and R 1 represents a hydrogen atom or a Si-C bound C 1 -C 20 -hydrocarbon radical or a C 1 -C 15 -hydrocarbon radical, wherein, respectively, one or more non-adjacent methylene units by have been replaced by groups -O-, -CO-, -COO-, -OCO-, or -OCOO-, -S-, or -NR X - and in which one or more non-adjacent methine units may have been replaced by groups -N=, -N=N-, oder -P=, wherein R 1 can be identical or different, identical or different, R x can be a hydrogen atom or a linearer, branched and/or cyclic C 1 -C 15 - carbon, hydrogen or aryl radical, and Y is a reactive functional binding group comprising a binding agent system.
