A hand truck (10), for transporting a large pail (40), includes a frame (12) that has a shaft (16) with one end to which a user handle (18) is attached and another end attached to a middle portion of a U-shaped frame section (14). The U-shaped frame section (14) has two spaced-apart legs (20, 22) with a separate wheel (24, 26) mounted to each leg (20, 22). A boom (36) is attached to and projects away from the frame (12) and has a receiver (38) for engaging a handle (42) of the pail (40). When the receiver (38) is engaging the handle (42) of the pail (40), rotating the frame (12) about the wheels (24, 26) raises the pail (40) which thereby becomes suspended from the boom (36). The pail (40), when suspended, is able to swing freely on the boom (36) without striking the frame (12) or the wheels (24, 26).
