A lighting element holding panel, operably engaged with the base panel, can comprise a plurality of pockets, each configured to receive at least one lighting element; and can be comprised of a flexible transparent and/or translucent material. At least one of a plurality of lighting elements can be disposed in each pocket of the lighting element holding panel; where each of the lighting elements may comprise one or more light emitting semiconductors that are configured to produce white light. The flexible base panel and holding panel may allow the lighting apparatus to be compacted for storage and/or transport, and opened up for use.
