A method of making a composite comprising a reinforcement in a solid matrix comprises the steps of providing a die (10), introducing the reinforcement (28) and the matrix or the components of the matrix into the die; expanding the matrix in the die so as to increase the pressure in the die, wherein the pressure in the die moves the composite within the die to eject the composite from the die(10); ejecting a first length of composite (30); anchoring said first length at a first location;and thereafter ejecting a second length of composite,continuously, with no discernible break and integral with said first length, while simultaneously moving the die and first location relative to one another.
