Methods, systems, and devices are described for access procedures in wireless communications. A user equipment (UE) may determine that a UE initiated access procedure with a first cell has been triggered. The first cell may be a primary cell. The UE may determine that a network initiated access procedure with a second cell is in progress. The second cell may be a secondary cell. The UE may cancel the UE initiated access procedure with the first cell based on the network initiated access procedure with the second cell.
