Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method for circuit breaker failure (CBF) protection in a power substation. The method detects the failure of circuit breakers (CBs) that are associated with a power plant connected to a power network via the powered substation. If the voltage or the current of the feeder of the power plant exceeds a given threshold and remains higher than the threshold for a given period of time, the method sends tripping commands to the CBs in two stages. At a first stage of the two stages, tripping commands are sent to a first group of CBs that are directly connected to the feeder of the power plant. If the voltage or the current remains high after sending the first stage tripping commands, second-stage tripping commands are sent to a second group of CBs that are connected to the first group of CBs.
