摘要: A sectional door, which may be an overhead door (10) such as a residential garage door, including hingedly connected door panels (12a-12d) each being formed from a plurality of subpanels (14a-14d). The subpanels (14a-14d) forming each door panel (12a-12d) are disposed end-to-end to form the entire length of the door panel (12a-12d). Rigid connection between adjacent subpanels (14a-14d) of the same door panel (12a-12d) is made by at least one and preferably two connecting bars (32) extending within channels (34, 36) of adjacent subpanels (14a-14d) in a lengthwise direction. The connecting bars (32) are each formed of a length substantially less than the overall length of the door panel (12a-12d) but slightly longer than the length of an individual subpanel (14a-14d). All components of the door (10) may be stored and transported in relatively small packages or cartons (100), yet may be assembled into a structurally rigid, wind resistant sectional door (10).

摘要: An extension spring overhead door system (10) in which the spring (22) may be quickly and easily placed in tension with the door (21) in a closed position. A spring tensioning device (30, 140) is provided which eliminates the need for multiple installers to lift the full weight of the door (21) and then clamp or otherwise prop the door (21) in an open position. An extension spring containment tube (84) is also provided which surrounds the entire periphery of the spring (22) to fully contain the entire length of the extension spring (22). A second embodiment of the spring tensioning device (140) allows mounting of device (140) on either side of the door (21) while retaining easy access.

摘要: An overhead door apparatus (10) utilizing a torsion spring counterbalancing mechanism (30). The counterbalancing mechanism (30) includes a worm drive ring-shaped gear winding mechanism (38) for setting the appropriate torque or number of winds in the spring (32). A counting mechanism (140) is provided to indicate to the installer the number of winds being given to the spring (32). Means are also provided for accommodating spring growth and contraction during winding and unwinding using the winding mechanism (38) and during normal raising and lowering of the door (12). A spring clip gear retainer (82) is disclosed for preventing rotation or creep of the worm drive gear (70) and spur gear (56) during normal raising and lowering of the door (12). A second embodiment is disclosed allowing more universal interchangeability of components between the left and right sides of the door system (200), easy snap-in assembly, and including a telescoping spring cover (252). Each embodiment includes a spring winding counter (140).
