Eine Vorrichtung und ein Verfahren dienen zum Zerlegen eines Baumstamms (20) in Holzerzeugnisse. Die Vorrichtung (10) weist einen Längsförderer (16, 18, 22 - 28) mit quer zur Förderrichtung schmalen Halteelementen (18, 22) für den Baumstamm (20) auf. Die Halteelemente (18, 22) erstrecken sich in Längsrichtung des Baumstamms (20). Eines der Halteelemente (18) greift von unten und eines (22) von oben am Baumstamm (20) an. Die Halteelemente (18, 22) sind zusammen mit dem Baumstamm (20) in Förderrichtung verfahrbar. Ein relativ zum Längsförderer (16, 18, 22 - 28) in Förderrichtung ortsfestes Sägeaggregat dient zum Zerlegen des Baumstamms (20). Der Längsförderer (16, 18, 22 - 28) erstreckt sich in Förderrichtung durch den von dem Sägeaggregat eingenommenen Bereich (B) der Vorrichtung (10) hindurch. Das Sägeaggregat ist als Doppelwellenkreissägeaggregat (40) ausgebildet (Figur 1).
