摘要: An ink jet type image forming device comprising a suction fan (11) for sucking from below a platen (12) a print medium (14) that is being conveyed on the platen (12), and a variable control means for variably controlling the suction force of the suction fan (11) according to predetermined conditions. The variable control means has a means that, as a predetermined condition and in each scanning of a head, recognizes presence or absence of the head in a printing region ranging from the printing start position to the printing end position and that controls suction fan such that the suction force is lower when the head is outside the printing region than when it is within the printing region. Alternatively, it has a means that, as a predetermined condition, recognizes the kind of a print medium that has been set and that controls the suction force of the suction fan according to the recognized kind of print medium. Adjustment of the suction force of the suction fan lowers the load on a conveyance motor and generally reduces power consumption and noise.

摘要: A method of synchronous serial communications and a system for synchronous serial communications are provided for increasing the transfer rate of serial data. In full mode, ordinary synchronous serial communications are carried out. In block mode, serial data of a predetermined length to be transmitted is divided into a plurality of blocks, block information about which block is to go first is transmitted, and the data in the block designated by the block information is then transmitted. In burst mode, the next block information is compared with the previously sent block information, and the coincidence of the two allows the data of the block to be transmitted with block information omitted. Mode identification information indicative of the current transmission mode accompanies data to be transmitted.

摘要: The number of signal lines of a cable between a controller and a carriage is small, and the printing timing of each head is adjustable in units each smaller than one pixel. The signal lines include a signal line for serial printing data including printing data arranged in a predetermined order for printing heads, a signal line for a clock corresponding to each bit of the data, a signal line for a signal HDSL [1..0] representing that the printing data included in the serial printing data corresponds to which printing head, and signal lines for the signals for driving the heads. Before transferring data, one slice section corresponding to the time slot for transferring the unit printing data for each head is divided into sections, and further the sections are divided into subsections the number of which is equal to the number of print heads. The transfer of printing data is started from arbitrary subsection independently for each head.

摘要: A printer capable of detecting the presence of ink, including whether an ink tank is attached. A detachable ink tank (32) on a carriage (31) includes a prism (32C), and a reflective optical sensor (33) detects the presence of ink depending on the difference in refractive index between the two states, that is, filled and empty. A reflector lever (35), movable in response to the ink tank (32) being attached or detached, is provided on the bottom of an ink tank holder (34). The reflector lever (35) has one end fixed on a lower part of the ink tank and the other end that is a free end consisting of a triangular reflector (35D). The reflector lever (35) is normally urged upward by an elastic member (35A), and it will not direct the reflection toward the sensor (33) in the absence of the ink tank whereas it is deformed in the presence of the ink tank to direct the reflection toward the sensor (33). As a result, the presence of the ink tank is detected.
