Ultrasound imaging method combined with the presence of contrast agents in the body under examination, comprising the steps of: transmitting at least one beam of acoustic waves into a body under examination carrying contrast agents, and which acoustic waves are transmitted at a first fundamental transmission frequency and are focused on at least one scan line; receiving the acoustic beam reflected from the body under examination and the contrast agents along said at least one scan line; separating, in said received signal, the at least one harmonic or subharmonic components from the fundamental frequency component; generating one image from at least one of the fundamental, harmonic and/or subharmonic components of the received signal. According to the invention, the components of the received signal are separated according to their being at the first fundamental frequency, at the harmonic frequency and at the subharmonic frequency; whereas the amplitudes of the received signals are stored for each of the fundamental, harmonic or subharmonic frequency components at each reflected point; depending on the amplitudes of the signal components, the reflector nature is determined, said nature being assumed as a contrast agent, when the subharmonic component of the received signal has an amplitude above a predetermined minimum amplitude.

An ultrasonic imaging method and apparatus wherein the ultrasonic energy transmitted to a subject under examination is generated by a plurality of electroacoustic transducers, which are actuated for transmission with predetermined delays according to a predetermined focusing rule; the ultrasonic energy reflected by the subject under examination is received by an array of electroacoustic transducers. The latter are actuated or the received signals are read with predetermined delays according to a received signal focusing rule. The focused received signals are turned into image data for ultrasonic image display. The transmitting transducers are actuated with such delays as to generate a homogeneous acoustic field over all or part of the region of the subject under examination, which may be covered by the geometry of the whole array of transducers.

A method for operating an imaging device for the monitoring of an anatomical region during insertion of metallic objects or objects made at leat partly of metal inside the said region, which metallic objects disturb standard tracking systems. The method is based on acquisition of image data by two different imaging systems, one of which is capable of high resolution and the other of real time imaging, registering the images of the two imaging systems and using the high resolution system for imaging the anataomic district while the real time imging system for imaging the metallic object to be introduced in the said anatomic district. The invention relates also to an imaging apparatus for performing such method.

The present invention relates to a portable ultrasound monitoring system comprising a portable ultrasound system which is in turn provided with an array of electroacoustic transducers, each one of which emitting ultrasound waves when powered with an electric excitation signal and generating an electric reception signal when impinged by an ultrasound wave or pulse generated for example by the reflection of ultrasound waves emitted therefrom. There are also provided means for generating said electric excitation signals, as well as means for receiving said electric reception signals and processing and storage units for said electric excitation and reception signals. Moreover there are provided communication means for the transmission and reception of the electric excitation and reception signals between the portable ultrasound system and at least a remote unit for displaying, storing and further processing, as well as power supply means for the whole portable ultrasound system. Moreover there are provided supporting means in combination with the portable ultrasound system, which are composed of means for temporary fastening to the body.

According to the invention, with the aperture of the array of transducer elements remaining the same, there is provided a double, triple amount or an amount corresponding to a rational fraction of the number of transducers and having half the pitch, a third of the pitch or a pitch corresponding to said rational fraction respectively, the directly adjacent transducer elements being intended for emitting acoustic pulses and for receiving acoustic pulses respectively such to make two sub-arrays of transducer elements used only for transmitting and only for receiving acoustic pulses respectively, while directly adjacent transducer elements intended for the transmission and for the reception respectively share the same connection line or channel which branches off by means of a buffer into a dedicated connection branch for each one of said two transducer elements. The invention relates to a three-dimensional imaging ultrasound probe having a small number of channels using said transducer array.
