According to the invention, amongst other things, a rapid change from right-handed to left-handed ejection and vice versa may be achieved, whereby at least one stationary ejector (27) may be provided on one or one of the cartridge withdrawal forks (7), such that on a recoiling breech or breechblock (1), the cartridge or cartridge case (23) is withdrawn by all cartridge withdrawal forks (7) in common from a cartridge bearing and, once free of the cartridge bearing, is pivoted about the cartridge withdrawal fork (7) and hence ejected to the side thereof which has no provided ejector (27). The above arrangement is particularly suitable for a repeating or self-loading shotgun.
