摘要: A method of improving the thermal transfer properties of a heat transfer surface (1) of a heat exchanger element by electroless deposition on the surface (1) of a coating (2) of a metal or a metal alloy, preferably of nickel or copper or their alloys, optionally with particulates of silver or chlorinated or fluorinated polymers. The electroless deposition is carried out for a shortened period of time, which creates a surface which is rough at the nano scale, including asperities of the order of hundreds of nanometres in size. The surface is also of low surface energy, highly hydrophobic and has a high surface area. The surface is a biomimetic hierarchical nanostructure.
