    摘要： A process cartridge (100; 507; 712) including an image bearing member (10; 310; 502; 701); a lubricant applicator (20; 160; 531; 631; 707), which includes a lubricant application member (23; 161; 533; 771) configured to apply a solid lubricant (22; 162; 534; 772) to the surface of the image bearing member; and a smoothing member (21; 532; 774) configured to smooth the applied solid lubricant, and at least one of a charging device (30; 509; 702), a developing device (50; 526; 706) and a cleaning device (40; 531; 631; 707), wherein the amount of the solid lubricant present on a portion of surface of the image bearing member, which is located between the lubricant application member and the smoothing blade, is from 0.11 to 1. 2 mg/m 2 . The smoothing member is preferably a blade having a JIS-A hardness of not less than 79°. The process cartridge is preferably assembled by a method including setting the lubricant smoothing member, the lubricant and the lubricant application member to a housing (110; 410) of the process cartridge; and then setting the image bearing member to the housing.

    摘要： An image forming apparatus (200) includes an image bearing member (1) configured to bear a toner image on a surface thereof, a charging mechanism (3) configured to charge the surface of the image bearing member uniformly, an intermediate transfer mechanism (6a) configured to transfer the toner image from the image bearing member onto an image receiver (10), a cleaning mechanism (2) configured to clean the surface of the image bearing member after the toner image is transferred onto the image receiver; and a lubricant supplying mechanism (7) configured to supply a lubricant (L) contained therein onto the surface of the image bearing member and form a thin layer using a lubricating blade (7a), the lubricant supplying mechanism being arranged at a position between the cleaning mechanism and the charging mechanism: whereby the surface of the image bearing member becomes more uniform for charging. To have a good thin line resolution, toner images are formed by using essentially spherical toner particles having an average volume based diameter of at most 10 µm.

    摘要： An image forming apparatus includes a moving member (2,12), a cleaning device (16,50) that removes toner attached onto a surface of the moving member, and a lubricant applying device (60,160,260,360) that is provided at the outside of the cleaning device and applies a lubricant onto the surface of the moving member to decrease coefficient of friction between the surface of the moving member and a substance in contact with the surface of the moving member. The lubricant applying device includes a casing (61,161,261,361) having an opening facing the surface of the moving member and having an inner wall surface. A closed space is formed by being surrounded by the inner wall surface of the casing and the surface of the moving member, and the lubricant applying device accommodates the lubricant in the closed space and applies the lubricant to the surface of the moving member in the closed space.
