摘要: A method of charging ink into an ink cartridge is described, in which the ink cartridge includes: a foam chamber; an ink supply port formed in a wall of said ink cartridge; and a porous body for absorbing ink being accommodated within said foam chamber and positioned to engage said ink supply port for delivery of ink thereto to define a space in said foam chamber between said porous body and the wall bearing a through hole. The ink cartridge has at least two insertion through holes in a wall thereof, said wall defining at least one of said walls of said foam chamber. The method comprises the steps of: inserting an exhausting hollow needle to be connected to an exhauster through a first of said through holes into the space in said foam chamber; inserting an ink injecting hollow needle through a second of said plurality of through holes into said porous member; exhausting the interior of said cartridge; injecting ink through said ink injecting hollow needle after the exhausting operation has been completed; removing said hollow needles; and sealing said cartridge.

摘要: It is described an ink cartridge including: an ink chamber (412) for retaining liquid ink; a foam chamber (411) maintained in fluid communication with the ink chamber through a communication hole (419). An ink supply port (413) for supplying ink from a porous body (420) accommodated in the foam chamber (411) to a recording head is provided. The portion of the foam body (420) confronting the ink supply port (413) is compressed by the ink supply port (413). The amount of ink absorbed by the porous body (420) is between 3/2 and twice the amount of ink initially charged into the ink chamber (412). When a cartridge uses more than one color of ink for printing in color, a plurality of foam and ink cartridges are used. The cartridge is filled under reduced pressure while the interior of the cartridge is further evacuated before filling with ink.

摘要: The apparatus comprises: a driving signal generating circuit (49) for generating a first voltage waveform for expanding piezoelectric vibrators at a rate suitable to form ink drops of ink, a second voltage for holding an expansion state or a contraction state, and a third voltage waveform for contracting the piezoelectric vibrators at a rate suitable to suck ink into pressure generating chambers; a discharge end detecting circuit (52) for detecting the time when the process of forming ink drops by the first voltage waveform is ended; a delay circuit (53) for delaying a signal from the circuit (52) by a time AT till the vibration of menisci caused by the process of forming ink drops is switched to the motion toward nozzle openings; a charge signal generating circuit (48) for generating the third voltage waveform on the basis of a signal from the delay circuit (53); and a discharge signal generating circuit (51) for generating the first voltage waveform on the basis of a print timing signal. The third voltage waveform is generated when the menisci produced after forming ink drops have started moving toward the nozzle openings, so that ink required for the next formation of ink drops is sucked into the pressure generating chambers. Therefore, the force to retreat the menisci due to the expansion of the pressure generating chambers is canceled by motion of the menisci per se, and the retreat of the menisci caused by the suction of ink can be limited to the minimum. It is therefore possible to stabilize the positions of the menisci independently of the frequency.

摘要: The ink jet printing head of the present invention prints image data with ink droplets without impairing print quality or causing the recording paper to be excessively wetted. The ink jet recording head includes pressure producing chambers (5) communicating with nozzle openings (2), and piezoelectric vibrating elements (14) for expanding and contracting the pressure producing chambers (5). Whether print data is graphics image data or text data is judged by a data judging unit, and as a result of the judgment, a time constant of a variable time constant adjusting unit is set to a longer time in the case of printing image data than in the case of printing text data. Accordingly, the pressure producing chambers (5) are caused to expand without undergoing damped oscillation for a time which is longer than the natural vibration cycle of the piezoelectric vibrating element (14) and which specifically corresponds to the print data.
