A solar cell and a method of manufacturing the same are provided. The solar cell includes: a rear electrode layer disposed on a substrate; a light-absorption layer disposed on the rear electrode layer and including Cu, In, Ga, Se, and S;, wherein the light-absorption layer includes a depletion region ranging from a surface thereof to a depth t, and an average S/(Se+S) mole ratio in the depletion region is from about 0.10 to about 0.30. The content of S in the light-absorption layer of the solar cell is controlled to have an increased surface energy band gap (Eg) on the surface of the light-absorption layer, which improves a resistance to thermal degradation of the solar cell.
