Responses are, advantageously, activation of an error indicator, inhibition of application of power to affected devices, or, with program controlled systems, display of a text error message, facilitation of user intervention for error correction, or automated re-programming to overcome interconnection errors.

Injection molding systems described herein are configured to produce more uniform injection molded parts in one or more mold cavities corresponding to nozzles of a hot runner. The injection molding systems include sensors that detect one or more physical properties of a melt having been dispensed into the respective one or more mold cavities. A controller is configured to adjust the heat output from one or more heaters based on the sensed physical properties of the dispensed melt. Further, each nozzle of a hot runner may include a balance heater for heating an area of the nozzle body and a tip heater for heating an area of the nozzle tip. The controller of the injection molding system is configured to independently adjust the heat output of each balance heater of the hot runner.

Apparatus and method for controlling an injection molding system having a plurality of devices which generate a corresponding plurality of feedback signals includes structure and steps for providing an operator control station which has a display and at least one operator input device. A single, general-purpose computer is coupled to both the operator control panel and the plurality of injection molding devices and functions to perform multiple-tasking control of both the injection molding functions and the operator control functions. The computer preferably performs real-time closed loop control of the plurality of injection molding devices while also processing system feedback signals and operator input signals. Thus, there is no need for the analog signal processor and the programmable logic controller of the prior art. Preferably, the single general purpose computer has local area network and internet connections to allow external control and feedback of the operating parameters of the injection molding system.

The invention teaches intermittent flow of the temperature regulating fluid, the flow being permitted during certain parts only of the processing cycle, so that for example coolant cannot flow whilst hot melt material is being injected.
